Carol Schram: Streaky Vancouver Canucks now winless in 3 after home shutout vs. Ottawa Troy Stecher made an impressive NHL debut, but the Vancouver Canucks' winless streak stretched to three games after they were shut out 3-0 by the Ottawa Senators on home ice on Tuesday.

Thanks Carol! Wonderful Work.

Etem on Utica would be great for depth.
Etem on the Canucks roster makes no sense (depending on the extent of the injuries to Burrows/Dorsett/Rodin and now JV). If Management see's Etem as an upgrade over Utica's best forwards than I see no harm. Low Cap, 1 year, can just be thrown on waivers again later.

My understanding is that if Vancouver claims him they can then send him directly to their farm team (Utica?) without having to clear waivers. If that's true, I have no idea why they wouldn't do that.

Thanks Carol,

The replay you showed of Virtanen didn't have anything to do with his shoulder. John Abbott last night confirmed after the game that he took a stick to his "nether regions" on that play and his shoulder is 100%.

IF true, than it would be dumb for Benning NOT to put in a claim.

I stand corrected. Thanks!

I didnt buy it when they said JV's shoulder was healthy and that awkward play looks possibly why he hasnt been as aggressive as he has been in the past. I read that it was a stick to the nuts but I didnt see it from the Sens player or from his own.

As for Etem, I make the claim, he can toil in the bottom six over Menga and reassess when bodies return

He would still need to clear waivers before being sent down. Might be worth the risk. But I would hate to lose our spot near the top of the waivers pecking order for a guy who could end up getting snagged off the wire again immediately.

Although I believe we are only at the top of the list until Nov 1. At that point waiver priority is shuffled to reflect the current season standings. So we'll be mid pack.

I think he is right.

If the claiming team places the player on waivers in the same season and his original team claims him, the team may send the player to the AHL without placing him on waivers again unless he meets the criteria for waiver expiration below.

Waiver expiration

Once a player clears waivers, the team does not have to immediately reassign the player. However, once the player has played ten games or spent thirty days on an NHL roster, the waivers expire and the player will have to clear again before being loaned to another league.

He can be claimed and assigned to Utica, though I am confused about the original owning club is "the successful and only Club", might suggest that if anyone else puts a claim in, Etem would have to stay in the NHL?

13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently, in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being asked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative) and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successful claim.

I dunno man, it looks like Virtanen's stick is what nuts him. Why would he come back and play in the 3rd if he had a bum shoulder. He might be hesitant to play physical but I don't see how the team could ever see a reason to play him with an injured or less than healthy shoulder

I'm pretty sure the original owning club would be the Canucks and they have first crack at him. If they decided not to claim him it goes back to the waiver priority list.

I watched the sticks and thought maybe it was the butt-end of the Sens guy, but he had his out front. The blade of JV's stick seems too low and the top you can see in the picture is way out wide. I thought it looked awkward when he reached his forearm out on the follow through

It could be nothing but my suspicion was that his shoulder injury is one where he is in discomfort andwill need surgery to correct it, but cant do further damage to it. My brother went through the same thing, several shoulder issues, doctor says he needs surgery but can wait until hes done playing. It took him quite a while to be comfortable taking contact but still had full mobility. Entirely a guess though

Fair enough, I'm mostly just going off that Abbott said it was a stick and didn't say it like that was his opinion. I think it was Blake Price who brought it up and Aboott shot it down right away.

Could be minor, maybe even just got the wind knocked out of him. I will say the way he skated around after didnt look like someone who's shoulder was hurting
